Sometimes you just want to whip up something quick that you can wear the next day! McCall's 7405 definitely fits the bill, it was a quick sew and I made it one Sunday afternoon/evening with plenty of breaks!
I made view C, the maxi length with a sash, though in the photo I'm wearing my own belt which I preferred to the sash, though I did make one. I felt like the sash should have been wider, maybe I'll make another one with my extra fabric. I chose a stretch poplin from Fabric.com for this project. I really like this fabric because from a distance it looks like a floral but it's actually little bicycles!
First, let me say that I messed up when buying this pattern. I bought the large-XL-XXL sizes based on my hip measurement, when I should have bought the smaller sizes based on my bust size and graded out below the armhole to give enough waist/hip space. Especially since it's a loose fit with plenty of ease. That being said, if you make this pattern, beware the armhole is HUGE.
This photo doesn't really convey how big this armhole is. The point is literally 2 inches below my bust! Even a strapless bra would be fully visible on the side of the dress (I'm wearing a backless-strapless that I had from a bridesmaid dress). To fix this, I am planning to make a triangular piece to insert for more coverage. I actually thought it looked big on the pattern piece and raised it 1/2" and it was still way too low.
I might add some inseam pockets while I'm at it! I love pockets.
I made one other alteration, I put a slit on both sides. The pattern includes one only on the right side, but I prefer a double slit look. As another option, you could also do a back vent since the back is two pieces using the same technique.
Overall, I really liked this dress and it was a quick make! I might make view B with the high-low hem next go around! But I'll raise the armhole :)
