Made for Mermaids Aaronica - Pattern review

Hello sewing friends! It's been a hot minute since I posted anything and I think I have only made two new patterns in the meantime. Life was very chaotic last fall and I didn't have access to my sewing supplies! The horror! 😱 And since then, well, I haven't been in the mood. It happens sometimes. I recently finished the Aaronica from Made for Mermaids, serious folks, I know I started this in February at least because I had thought I'd wear it on Valentines Day because the small dots are actually little hearts. And here it is, April. Also you can see in this photo, where the bodice goes up a little in the front on the right? Yeah, that's where I accidentally sliced through it with my serger when I was attaching the skirt. Whoops. It was a bad slice too, over an inch but whatever! It happens! Enough about my slow-poke sewing, to business! Pattern instructions Overall the instructions here are good. The photos are clear. There is only one place where I possibly didn...

Annelaine Patterns Kids Firecracker Dress - Pattern Review

About a year ago, Annelaine patterns had a going out of business sale. It makes me sad when patterns companies close up! Though I will admit I hadn't purchased from them before they were going out of business, I bought a bunch of their patterns in their closing sale, after all it was my last chance! Though it does seem like they are still around, their website is still up? Not sure what is going on as I received many emails telling me I had to download the patterns by a specific date. If you want this pattern act fast! So far the only pattern I have actually made from this pattern buying frenzy, is the kids Firecracker Dress. I really love the cute cross back of this pattern! I would 100% have bought this in my size if they had it and made it for myself. Directions I am a fairly experienced sewist and a lot of times I can put a pattern together without paying much attention to the directions. However, make sure you read the directions and I would even say to read all of them before...

McCall's 7621 - cold shoulder dress

McCall's 7621 would make the perfect summer dress and in the right fabric, would be great for wearing to a wedding.  I made it because I ordered some new fabric and realized that I still hadn't used...any...of the fabric I had ordered about a month prior. Whoops. I made view D with sleeve option B. I was planning to make view D out of a sparkly knit that I had but at the last minute I decided to use a floral Liverpool knit and thought the flouncy sleeve (sleeve B) would be more appropriate for this summery fabric. I might make it in the sparkle fabric as a straight view D in the future, that would make a cute party dress. Alterations Based on the size chart, I graded from size large at the bust to x-large for the hip size but then it ended up being a little big in the waist/hip when sewn and I had to take it back in a smidgeon. I would probably be ok with a straight size large. See that weird bulky area? That's basically where I graded out, and it was sticking ou...

Quick Sunday sew - M7405 review

Sometimes you just want to whip up something quick that you can wear the next day! McCall's 7405 definitely fits the bill, it was a quick sew and I made it one Sunday afternoon/evening with plenty of breaks! I made view C, the maxi length with a sash, though in the photo I'm wearing my own belt which I preferred to the sash, though I did make one. I felt like the sash should have been wider, maybe I'll make another one with my extra fabric. I chose a stretch poplin from Fabric.com for this project. I really like this fabric because from a distance it looks like a floral but it's actually little bicycles! First, let me say that I messed up when buying this pattern. I bought the large-XL-XXL sizes based on my hip measurement, when I should have bought the smaller sizes based on my bust size and graded out below the armhole to give enough waist/hip space. Especially since it's a loose fit with plenty of ease. That being said, if you make this pattern, bew...
